The program paid for us all to go see a production by the Shakespeare Santa Cruz group. Lucky for me, we saw my favorite Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’d never actually seen it performed before and had always wanted to, but I’ve read it a couple of times and own a copy of it.
I thought it was really well done. It was performed in the perfect setting, an outdoor amphitheater surrounded by woods (on campus). I thought Puck was really well played, they did some cool stuff with him jumping out of a trap door. They also had two other Pucks that would pop up as though he was moving really fast from one place to another.
Pretty much I liked all the characters, except Demetrius and one of the crafts men who had character quarks that were a little overplayed. And they threw in a joke about Twilight (the play was modernized and at one point she had the book) and a weird song that just didn’t fit.
They did a great job and I was really glad we got to see it!
