California to Madrid

Just as a side note before I go on about my wonderful weekend, a friend of mine was killed in a Disney monorail crash last weekend. I wasn’t close to him but he was a fellow computer science major and it’s always a bit shocking when someone you know dies. So if you read this, take a moment to pray for his friends and family.

So onto my amazing weekend. My dad saw a trip to San Jose (about an hour from me) with a day layover so he got it and came to visit. Since he had a car I requested we do something away from Santa Cruz, so we decided to go to Monterey and then drive down along the coast. It was absolutely beautiful, as you can see in the pictures.

It was fourth of July but technically fireworks are illegal in Santa Cruz. But lots of people do them anyway. We were kind of tired to go into town and deal with crowds, so instead David and I went to a hill on campus that overlooks the city. From there we could see everyone’s fireworks, which were decently numerous despite their illegality.
